Monument, present for the initial and final mysteries of Gargantua, in Gargantua’s harangue in which arches, columns, and pyramids are disparaged, can be deciphered with the Inscriptiones sacrosanctæ vetustatis of Pierre Apian and Bartholomew Amantius, a sumptuous work made possible thanks to the patronage of Fugger. It is a marker of the rivalry between Charles V and François I where the symbols of the columns of Hercules and the prophecy of the Sibyl promising the conquest of the world are contrasted with the Gallic Hercules.
