Beginning in 1532, Rabelais’ work is associated with the denunciation of the abuses of the Roman Catholic Church. In 1593, a Pararabelaisian work appeared for the first time. It retrieves elements from the Pantagrueline chronicle with a Catholic aim, explicitly anti-Reformation. This trend will reach its apogee during the reign of Louis XIII, marked by a renewed interest in the literary genres preferred by the master as well as by use of his fame in accordance with royal policies.
