Langue, littérature, identité au Moyen Âge

In the Middle Ages, « French » competes with two other terms : « roman » and « oïl ». One can adopt a historical perspective and trace French as descending from Latin, or a geographical and political one that situates French in relation to other vernacular languages in competition with it.
