Adolphe Brisson in his Portraits intimes left an account of his visit to Rosmapamon, where Renan spent his holidays from 1885 to 1892, dividing his time between work, family and friends. He gives some personal memories of Renan and highlights his polemical and paradoxical spirit. He presents in particular a letter to Alphonse Peyrat in which Renan expresses, according to him, in "a few lines, the harshest indictment that one ever launched against Bossuet".
