Openings on the pragmatics of visibility From monitoring to the theory of screen surveillance performances

Drawing on all the articles in the issue, we propose here to take up the general hypothesis of « digital surveillability » to lay down the first terms of a general theory of the screen performances of surveillance. Following on from our examination of the notions of « watching », « screening », « scanning », « checking », « tracing » and « stalking », the aim is to analyze « monitoring » and « screen capture » as the dual origins of the surveillance practices of our media age.
