Taking oneself for God A technological ambition?

The phrase “playing God” is regularly used against scientific and technological work in the fields of life science and healthcare. Conversely, some movements such as transhumanism claim to be a new religion. This twofold summoning of religion interpellates us in Western societies where religious references, with some exceptions, tend to be missing. What does it reveal? What meaning does one give it? How does one explain it?
