Freedom and passivity according to Emmanuel Levinas and Simone Weil Can one be a Levinasian caregiver?

Levinas’ philosophy allows to represent the care relationship in terms of heteronomy. In particular, the responsibility of the caregiver is conceived as a passivity in the face of the patient’s suffering. Although Levinas doesn’t seek to show how to implement this approach, we can find the foundations of this implementation in Simone Weil’s concept of attention. This paper discusses the relevance of this “ethics of passivity”, defended by both Levinas and Weil, in the context of care.
