The purpose of this article is to understand the advent of "responsible finance", at the turn of the 21st century. Considering that one cannot study finance without taking into account the global society of which it is only a component, this understanding is made from a new perspective on a modern nation. This advent is one of the manifestations of the entry into crisis of this model of living together with the rise of the ecological question in the North and that of the social question in the South. It is also one of the building blocks of a social transformation project whose actualization would be an outcome "from above". An essential place is given in the development of this thesis to radical uncertainty and to conventions which allow it to be reduced to risk.
