For the pioneer of British film Robert Paul (1869–1943), training in electrical engineering would prove to be a major influence on his filmmaking career. Robert Paul took a “technical” approach to editing in his films, creating effects that would improve the viewing experience. In doing so, he proposed a novel link between the fields of technique and artistic creation.
