Studies on sound in cinema have expanded considerably in recent years, in France and elsewhere, through cross-fertilization with other media, disciplinary enrichment, and historical and theoretical research. But specific analyses of the sound of objects are still rare. Thus this issue of Ecrans proposes a set of contributions studying and questioning the sound of objects based on the notion of “sounding object”.
