Absence and the Neutral An analysis of the Divergence between Camus, Duras and Blanchot

Drawing on the comparative analysis of Blanchot’s reading of L’Étranger by Albert Camus and Le Ravissement de Lol V. Stein by Marguerite Duras, this article excavates the Blanchotian hermeneutics, as well as the divergence between Duras and Blanchot. In addition to the different forms of absence (absence of subject and of center in the work), it reveals the political and ethical nature of this divergence in relation to the concepts of the neutral and “narrative voice”.
