  • Abstract: The poetics of Jean Cocteau involves the passage between the visible and the invisible, the known and the unknown, the conscious and the unconscious. In the theater, this poetics is made manifest in a symbolic overinvestment in the movement of characters: someone appears on the stage then, irresistibly, disappears. Composing entries and exits is a difficult art, one in which Cocteau became a virtuoso after learning its principles in the mimodramas and ballets of his youth.
