In 1978, the Italian law professor and politician Aldo Moro was kidnapped and assassinated by the terrorist group Brigate Rosse. In his interpretation of the affair, Marco Bellocchio once again represents the Italian legal and political world during one of its crises. Esterno notte emphasizes the dialectic between institutional justice and political violence, which reached its apogee with Aldo Moro’s “death sentence.”
