Permacultural Fiction Sustainable Food and Environmentalist Praxis in the Ecocritical Literature of the 2020s

This article examines contemporary speculative novels addressing the issue of food security through the practice of permaculture, a mode of sustainable agriculture that maintains ecosystems and enhances the ability to adapt to climate change. These novels are inspired by ecocritical precepts, creating a new genre, that of a “permacultural” fiction, where the characters are permaculturists militantly (sometimes) involved, out of sheer optimism, in actions aimed at preserving the environment.
