“We Make Still by the Law in Which We’re Made” Création et subcréation dans l’Ainulindalë tolkienienne

This article examines the cosmogonic myth of The Music of the Ainur, based on an analogy between human creativity and divine creation, which deeply influences Tolkien’s fictional universe. In order for the author to achieve the “inner consistency of reality”, the myth underwent two revisions, aiming at a more consistent representation of its underlying metaphysics. The analysis of its three versions provides enlightening insights into this aspect of Tolkien’s creative process.
