“A hell of a job” Downgraded female artists in illustrated editions of La Vagabonde

This essay intends to focus on Colette’s activism discourse in The Vagabond in favor of music-hall female artists during the first decade of the twentieth century. Il also shows how most illustrators of the text have attempted to erase the author’s social discourse in order to impose an image of the actress inherited from turn-of-the-century cultural traditions.
