Claude Lancelot (1616–1695) was one of the first teachers at the Petites écoles de Port-Royal, one of whose brightest pupils was Jean Racine. Having lived through the troubled years of the Port-Royal, Lancelot was exiled to Brittany, where, before his death, he joined the Benedictine order.
