This article analyzes the various forms and uses of approbations. Considered as an element of printed books, the approbation appears less as a tool of control, than as a means of action with books. I study the impact of these many actions on the institutions in the name of which they take place – royal and ecclesiastical censorship, and more broadly the Church itself.
