The initiators of Tristan research in Germany and the United States: Amédée Carriat, Claude Abraham, and Wolfgang Leiner, a fruitful collaboration

Claude Abraham and Wolfgang Leiner both promoted Tristan studies and were friends of Amédée Carriat. Their paths crossed in the 1960s in the United States, where they were teaching seventeenth-century French literature. Each became interested in Tristan’s work and stayed in touch when Leiner was appointed professor at the University of Tübingen. Their work has spurred Tristan studies in the United States as well as in Germany.
