The Considérations do not conform to any generic classification. However, the work’s choral form of writing, conceived by de Staël, is not intended exclusively to give meaning to the chaos of events through the filter of subjectivity: it also problematizes the very concept of history, since de Staël places less emphasis on the narrative events than she does on their fundamental causes. Surely this change in scale is necessary for one who seeks to look beyond the surface of the facts toward their anthropological dimension?
