1913-1915 – Richard Wagner in Mercure de France

A century after the composer's birth, figure of Wagner became a source of tension as soon as first shots were fired, both in France and within the editorial staff of Mercure de France : the Franco-German war was re-enacted, between the critics of Germanic Kultur on the one hand, and the advocates of dispassionate musical criticism on the other.
