Camille Rodic, “Metaphorically making the sun revolve. The use of metaphor in the manuscripts of Le Soleil placé en abîme”
Studying the manuscripts for Le Soleil placé en abîme, this article looks back at Francis Ponge’s use of metaphor. If, as his work emerges, the writer seeks to circumscribe the sun through metaphor, he faces a twofold tyranny: that of the sun and that of the image. Since he can escape neither, he must integrate the sun within his own system and parasitize the omnipotence of metaphors… through metaphor.

Serge Linarès, “The uses of manuscript printing. Francis Ponge and the publication of handwritten texts”
This article looks back at the issues involved in publishing Ponge’s handwritten manuscripts at different periods of his life: the emergence of Pongian difference (1946–1954), the temptation of heritage in the early 1960s (when autograph publication did not always have genealogical significance), and the scriptural blossoming of the last few years. The publication of handwritten texts is part of a general effort to destabilize the notion of the work while recalling the organic nature of writing.

Thomas Augais, “Stretching the lyre’s string. Francis Ponge facing Giacometti’s sculptures”
In publishing the “planches refusées” in 1964, taken from his 1951 text on Giacometti, Ponge reacted to the contradictory injunction of this work by revealing how its evocative capacity, which he had tried to put into words in 1951 in a brief text, only comes about against a background of destruction. It is less the unveiling of an origin than the rereading of a work backward from the crystallization of the text.

Pierre-Marie Héron, “Ponge, Sollers and the form of the serial radio interview”
This article sheds light on Francis Ponge’s interviews with Philippe Sollers by exploring the audio archives of the initial recording sessions and the transcriptions of these sessions. The aim is to see how, together, Ponge and Sollers deployed the form of the serial interview and whether or not they fit into the tradition of the genre. It then aims to show how a certain conception of the subversion of common language through writing affects the course of these interviews.

Bénédicte Gorrillot, “Francis Ponge, Getting off the verse/prose merry-go-round”
This article is devoted to the relationship between verse and prose in Ponge’s work, showing how the writer manages to escape the eternal verse/prose debate by no longer taking the play of their oppositions as an end. Based on quotations from two commentators on Ponge, Jean-Marie Gleize and Élizabeth Cardonne-Arlyck, Bénédicte Gorrillot sets up an exchange between these two divergent readings of Ponge’s body of work.
