To tell or not to tell Medieval sources dealing with princely secrecy (13th–15th century)

As princely powers become more public in the late Middle Ages, their use of secrecy grows. Writings can say a lot about what needs to be hidden. The writing revolution tends to be structured by a dialectic between visible and invisible. As secrecy tends to invade literature and archival sources, it is clearly assumed by princes. But they also practice self-censorship as they cannot say everything.
