The manuscript and editorial vogue of “vieux romans” in the late fifteenth and the sixteenth century - The shaping of the chivalric romance

This study analyzes the construction of the chivalric romance from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, through the various practices of those who worked in the book industry. Medieval literary matters were gradually integrated into one popular corpus, under the influence of prose and cyclic compilations. The birth of literary historiography and the first theoretical works on the romance encouraged this process.
