During the night of 26 and 27 June 1476, at the height of the Burgundian debacle, Yolande of France, Duchess of Savoy, is kidnapped with three of her children, by the captain of the guard of Charles the Bold, Olivier de la Marche. This political abduction is certainly not unique in the Duchy of Savoy, but it is a stain in the career of the Burgundian knight. This article reviews this episode and questions the political and cultural significance of such a gesture at the end of the 15th century.
