Textual Babel Textuality and diversity in the world of Montaigne

The concepts of « textuality » and « diversity » have received important treatment from a predominantly philosophical viewpoint in Francophone criticism. A current project on the literary history of Europe provides the opportunity for this article to suggest ways in which these concepts can inform an analysis of Montaigne’s entire textual and cultural world, the world of post-Erasmian, post-Reformation Europe and its global connections.
