Le Désespéré abounds with traces of anti-Semitism. But Bloy’s spiritual journey allowed him to separate himself from it, to a great extent, through various stages that are mapped out in this article: first, Le Salut par les Juifs, aimed at Drumont after the launch of La Libre Parole; then, Je m’accuse. . . , which offers a theological reading of the Dreyfus Affair; and finally, Le Sang du Pauvre and Le Journal, where Bloy’s philo-Semitism expands.
