The title of Philippe Jaccottet’s last work, La Clarté Notre-Dame, calls for a religious interpretation. The references to the universe of Dante, the convergence of signs received during his life and also the reminiscences from his favorite poets, especially Hölderlin, are harmoniously linked to the ringing of “the little bell of vespers” of Clarté Notre-Dame: this “seemingly meaning” comforts him in his quest for salvation “towards and in opposition to all.”
