In his movie The silence, Ingmar Bergman explores the inner exile of two feminine characters. This exile is revealed by Esther’s imminent death, which brings both herself and her sister Anna to confront again their father’s death. The director explores in a psychoanalytical way the winding of the characters’ dissolution and reconstruction.
