This article, constructed in the form of extracts from an imaginary dictionary, presents four visions of silence: that of the ‘Règle’ by Saint Benoît, that of symbolism by Maurice Maeterlinck, poetry by Rimbaud, and that of the moralist Joseph Joubert.
