A City Made of Wood, Stone, and Brick The “Petrification” of Urban Housing in Relation to the Question of Plots (Brussels, 13th–16th Century)

The adoption of stone and brick in the towns of the former Low Countries has generally been analyzed using traditional sources. This process is somewhat imprecise, masking the specificity of different town quarters and the various mechanisms that may have been at work at the level of individual plots. This article, which draws on an interdisciplinary approach between history and archaeology, offers a fresh perspective by focusing specifically on urban geography and the functioning of building plots.
