Abstract:Pillars of Salt presents two women, locked in a mental asylum in Jordan for having rebelled against masculine will. Through traditional Arabic narrative, these marginalised women find a voice which, exceeding time and space, can be transmitted to the next generation. Their identity is restored through a triple narrative which confers a profound texture to a history which weaves together past and present, reality and myth, mental health and madness, and suppression and rebellion.
