Abstract: Bakar Koussou became part of the history of Mayotte by leading the Forced Labour Revolt in 1856. His story is barely known by the people of Mayotte. Three Mayotte artists born between 1965 and 1974 rediscovered Bakar Koussou and treated him as the main character of their artistic and literature works written between 1997 and 2005. These artists trained in universities in France symbolize the transition from oral memory to written history and they fall within the post colonial paradigm.
