Abstract: This article defines the principles of the archeology of construction, in the context of a larger study dedicated to the water tower of the Porta Romana in the Ostia Antica. It proposes to apply it to the study of hydraulic monuments of the Roman era, after presenting the current state of studies dedicated to Roman building techniques.
