Abstract: In the history of its theatrical reception, Greek tragedy has offered a system of representation capable of producing, together with the content of myth and fiction, renewed emotional efficacy. How does the contemporary stage, which decomposes and recomposes the materials of representation, make use of this system? What emotions are to be aroused when one deals with spectators whose status as a community is unknown?
