Abstract: In 1934, Giraudoux devoted a series of three conferences at the University of the Annals to the general topic of “The Frenchwoman and France.” His guiding idea was that in a period of civilizational crisis, the qualities recognized in men were no longer sufficient to save what was fundamental: health, culture, happiness, and peace. The concerted auxiliary effort of women is needed, with their own qualities. This article contextualizes and analyzes the conferences and adds some reflections.
