Abstract: In Froissart’s Chronicles, the figures of English kings have been studied by critics, but those of French kings still need to be considered. Here I want to understand the image that the text gives of Charles VI. By comparing him to Richard II, I show how, in the first volumes, the warrior vigor of his youth and his lack of military education clarify the famous fit of madness in Book IV.
