  • Abstract: As princely powers become more public in the late Middle Ages, their use of secrecy grows. Writings can say a lot about what needs to be hidden. The writing revolution tends to be structured by a dialectic between visible and invisible. As secrecy tends to invade literature and archival sources, it is clearly assumed by princes. But they also practice self-censorship as they cannot say everything.
