  • Abstract: The paper examines one of the various lists that can be found in Laurence Sterne’s parodic novel, Tristram Shandy (1759-1767) and the French translations that were made of it between 1785 and 2004. This instance shows how Sterne and his translators chose to contribute to the literary tradition of humorous lists.
