This tale, an extract from Lire (Paris, 2015), releases a flood of memories marked by the discovery of Gide’s œuvre, then by the encounter with his critiques and loved-ones, notably Peter Schnyder and Catherine Gide, the only daughter of the writer. This literary encounter takes shape in the exploration of the personal environment of the author of Nourritures terrestres. Some historical reminders punctuate this personal testimony which reveals an initially enthusiastic, sometimes disappointed, but always fervent regard: the regard of the reader.
