Classical Europe and Gabriela Mistral The mythical Mediterranean in three poems: ‘Electra en la niebla’, ‘Clitemnestra’, and ‘Casandra’

This article discusses the traces of European classicism in the poetry of Chilean writer Gabriela Mistral. To do so, we analyze a recurrent setting in her poetic imaginary: the Mediterranean Sea, a setting that operates on a dual symbolic and physical level. This seems to be linked to a kind of hybrid poetic imaginary (both classical and indigenous), as well as to the image of a Europe that is still immersed in mythology.
