  • Abstract: Barrès was trained in Italian museums and defended the churches of France, but what place does he give the Louvre in his artistic and ideological cartography? With a few walks in the Louvre as its starting point, this article analyzes the links between the museum and romanesque creation, then the evolution of Barrès’ reflections on the museum as an institution. In this twofold itinerary, special attention is paid to the intellectual history of relationships that the writer has with some curators at the Louvre.
