  • Abstract: In the spring of 1893, the first edition of Eugène Delacroix's Journal appeared, until then unpublished. Edited by Paul Flat (1864–1918) and René Piot (1866–1934), it offers readers a new route for approaching the painter, some of whose paintings are exhibited in the Louvre since being transferred from the Musée du Luxembourg. The article looks back at the genesis of this venture, offering a portrait of one of the editors, Paul Flat, a man of letters, author of essays on literature, novels, and art criticism.
