Merveilleux et fantastique dans Meurvin

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Raconter en prose. xive-xvie siècle
  • Author: Roussel (Claude)
  • Abstract: Meurvin is currently only known by a prose version published by Pierre Sergent (1539) and by Nicolas Bonfons (around 1586). The work proceeds from a versified text freely extending the Chevalerie Ogier rewriting in Alexandrian verses. Meurvin too combines the Breton marvellous to the traditional epic universe, from which it keeps the Carolingian framework and the crusade theme. Its originality has probably to be found in a shift into the fantastic represented by a scene of black magic and by the role reserved to the devil Mutafier.
