Les signes de la performance
Une étude du Dit des Quinze signes dans le manuscrit Tours, BM 927

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Prédication et performance du xiie au xvie siècle
  • Author: Dominguez-Guillaume (Véronique)
  • Abstract: A common place of mediaeval literature of prophecy, shall The Fifteen Signs be considered as the end of the Jeu d’Adam– one of the oldest pieces of French medieval drama (xiith cent.) ? The essay takes position into this discussion. Finally this occasional coherence between the Signs and the Jeu is reinforced by their commoun use of stage directions and of metric forms, as well as by their being part of the codicological unit formed by the manuscript’s 46 first folios. This unit is devoted to an ad libitum performance, where the actors’ ability is more important than the liturgical calendar.
