Actor-author, Raymond Poisson wrote nine comedies for the Hôtel de Bourgogne in the 1660s-1670s. Comic devices inherited from the farce, caricatures of social types, songs and dances, Poisson used every means at his disposal to entertain his public and help counter the success of Molière at the Palais-Royal.
