The poetry of the Great War was viewed with suspicion as soon as the conflict came to an end, and was gradually forgotten during the twentieth century. Situated at the juncture of literary study and historical questioning, this investigation looks at the interactions between the experience of combatants and poetic activity by drawing on a rich corpus, from Apollinaire to Jean Le Roy.
