The Abbé de Chaulieu and the Marquis de la Fare, urbane poets united by a firm friendship, frequented the circles of the Duchess of Bouillon, and the Vendôme and Condé families. Their poetry, inspired by Anacreon and Epicurus, constitutes a bold break with the aesthetic norms of the “Grand Siècle”.
