Transtextual Relations and Beranger au long cul, or What do we Mean by Parody?

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Parodies courtoises, parodies de la courtoisie
  • Author: Pratt (Karen)
  • Abstract: Using Gérard Genette’s Palimpsests as a theoretical framework, this article examines the two extant versions of the fabliau Beranger au long cul as potential parodies. In an attempt to define parody more rigorously, this article focus on the two narratives’ relationship with their possible hypotexts, intertexts and generic architexts, while this investigation of their meaning and reception is enhanced by an analysis of their manuscript contexts.
