Most commentators reduce the Album zutique to simple questions of parody, if not obscenity. However, concerning Rimbaud, such is not precisely the case. Vu à Rome, for instance, a poem which is thought to be a parody of Léon Dierx’s poetry, is in fact a satire of the Roman Catholic Church, and Exils, as we show in the present article, mocks the twists and turns of the political career of Napoleon III.
